All about Tom
Thomas G. Colarusso was born to Italian immigrants in Mt. Vernon, New York
in 1909. He had dreams of becoming a doctor but during the Depression,
funds set aside for medical school were needed to buy his brother a pharmacy
in Yonkers, New York. Tom enrolled in pharmacology at Columbia University,
passed the boards, and spent the next nine years working at the pharmacy
fountain as a "Soda Jerk."
During WWII, Tom was a pharmacist at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham
City, Utah, where he married Merlene Tew of Springville, Utah. After the
war they settled in California where Tom owned two pharmacies and Merlene
had their three children.

In the early 1950's, while babysitting his youngest, Tom accidentally fell
asleep. When Merlene came home, the refrigerator door stood open and several
oranges floated in a tub of Tom's Fudge. Following chocolate tracks, she
found their two-year old asleep, standing up, with her head resting on her
snoring father's bed. Tom's
trousers were "topped" with his Fudge. Quietly lifting her snoozing baby
onto the bed, Merlene high tailed it out of there, leaving Tom to deal with
the consequences of "sleeping on the job."
Today, Tom's children and grandchildren still have their fingers in his
Fudge. We hope your family will also build fond memories with Tom's Gourmet
Fudge Topping.
